NPCEogunn thinks to himself for a moment. "So I will speak heresy, yet find my atonement in the irrationality it provokes in the enemy. That is... acceptable."
NPC"Then let us not delay. Do me the favour of inviting my esteemed colleague over — I am, as is evident, in no position to do so myself."
Tervantias the ArchmachinatorThe Haemonculus's face betrays nothing but contemptuous arrogance. "You have but a few moments of my precious time, mon-keigh. Speak."
NPC"I... offer my sincere apologies, Haemonculus. Your mastery is far beyond my own; I should never have doubted that fact." The Manipulus stares at the floor, avoiding the xenos's gaze.
Tervantias the ArchmachinatorFor a moment, malicious triumph twists Tervantias's already mutilated features into a grotesque mask. "Oh, finally I hear a shred of reason from your lips, you miserable creature. But you lack zeal. Repeat it once more, loudly and clearly. So that I may catch your babbling without having to strain my ears."
YOU"You demanded an apology. He has apologised. Is that not enough?"
Tervantias the Archmachinator"It is more than just 'not enough.' It is woefully inadequate, mon-keigh. I want your kinsman to grasp the true depth of his worthlessness and I wish to behold it first-hand."
YOU"You demanded an apology. He has apologised. Is that not enough?"continues where this line first appears above
YOU"Do as he asks, Eogunn."
NPCThe Tech-Priest continues. "My conduct was beneath my station, Haemonculus, and my judgement... altogether lacking."
Tervantias the Archmachinator"You have moved from simple reasoning to objective facts, yet you have still failed to state the conclusion." Tervantias speaks almost tenderly, openly relishing the humiliation of his opponent. "Do it then. Admit that you are a mentally deficient nonentity, whose entire body of knowledge is nothing but a pile of dubious guesswork and foolish rituals."
YOU"Do as he asks, Eogunn."continues where this line first appears above

NPC"The mere act of uttering such words will stain my soul with filth, whether I believe them or not. It does not matter what the xenos thinks. What matters is that I would have spoken heresy."
YOU"Any deception of the enemies of Humanity is a virtue. You don't have to mean the words."
YOU"Pride is a flaw that has doomed many wise men. Their knowledge and research perished along with them. Do you really wish to share their fate?"
YOU"The weight of your death would be more than Nuncius can bear. Can you really go through with this, knowing you'll leave him all alone?"
YOU"I've run out of arguments."
NPC"Then the debate is concluded." He softens. "I appreciate your efforts, but few ever manage to best me in an argument."
YOU"Eogunn, what happened to you?"
NPCThe Manipulus struggles to focus his clouded gaze on you. "How peculiar life is, Rogue Trader. I have gone from experimenter to test subject... My esteemed colleague has given me this imperfect form in order to transplant me into his prepared specimens. He seeks to prove that his skills in genetics and augmentation surpass mine. So far, he has proven only his pettiness and inadequacy."
YOU"Eogunn, what happened to you?"continues where this line first appears above
YOU"You would really call Tervantias an esteemed colleague?"
NPCA gloating smile touches Eogunn's lips. "It galls him beyond measure."

YOU"What bodies was Tervantias connecting you to?"
NPC"A modified Sslyth, one of his Drukhari kin... and a chimera created from a human, the exact construction of which remains a mystery to me for now. When you arrived, I was contemplating methods of recreating multi-component servitors of this kind. Tervantias has deprived me of all my usual tools, except the ability to think... and to log my thoughts." Eogunn's pallid face curls into a smile at you. "I hope the next specimens will be more... inventive. I have managed to awaken in the experimenter a certain semblance of professional jealousy."

YOU"So you're deliberately provoking the Haemonculus? Why?"
NPC"Knowledge is of supreme value for a researcher. This state allows me to gather fresh data on xenos biology... and to analyse it from a very personal perspective. One must not ignore such a source of information. That is why I took it upon myself to... pander to the vanity of my esteemed colleague. The experiment must continue."

YOU"His entire experiment is designed to make you suffer as much as possible."
NPCHis parched vocal cords produce a rattling rasp. "It is constant suffering, Rogue Trader, you are right. But this is my only chance to survive. Which is better: an end to suffering, or suffering without end? In this dilemma, I chose the latter. The moment the Haemonculus loses scientific interest in me, he will destroy the failed test subject. But while I am still alive... I can learn. Even in my current state."

NPC"He suffered the same fate I did. He was connected to an experimental specimen to force him to speak. He endured this torment stoically, without uttering a word." The Manipulus closes his eyes with parchment-thin lids. "Tervantias made me watch... the entire process."

NPC"Out of the question." Eogunn snaps back with a frosty and venomous tone unusual to him. "I will not utter a thesis that so blatantly contradicts reality."
YOU"Is it really so hard to just say what Tervantias wants to hear?"
NPC"Every word carries a cost. To say what he demands would be to surrender to the xenos, a betrayal of the Omnissiah and everything I stand for. It would mean selling my dignity and my very soul. I would rather perish."
YOU"Is it really so hard to just say what Tervantias wants to hear?"continues where this line first appears above
YOU"You have to understand that this is the only way to set you free."
NPCEogunn purses his lips tight in stubborn silence. At last, he speaks, his voice so faint it can only be caught by leaning in. "No. Not the only way. There is liberation in death, as well."

NPCEogunn screws up his face as if seized by intense pain. "I... No. I cannot. That is a powerful, if utterly sordid, argument on your part, [Name]. Commendable! Very well, I will go through with this deception, but solely for Nuncius's sake."

Entry point 7 of 24
NPCThe Manipulus looks up, his eyes filled with a focused scorn that verges on rage. In a heartbeat, he will put that scorn into words; unless you step in now, any hope of freeing Eogunn will be completely destroyed.
Tervantias the Archmachinator"Do not test my patience, mon-keigh. Unless forming a coherent sentence from a collection of sounds is a task too daunting for a mind as rudimentary as yours?"
YOU[Intervene] "Stop. We admit it. Your supremacy is absolute."
YOU[Do not intervene and let Eogunn speak]
NPC"You are correct, my esteemed colleague: I am indeed a short-lived, absurd creature with a rudimentary mind and utterly questionable cognitive abilities..."
Tervantias the ArchmachinatorTervantias nods approvingly, savouring every word the Manipulus utters.
NPC"...but you, xenos, are a mockery of knowledge. A pathetic butcher incapable of creating anything new. All your so-called 'research' produces nothing but dysfunctional cadavers, monuments to your own vanity. In the name of the Omnissiah, be damned, vile spawn! May your works turn to dust and sink into oblivion!" Eogunn speaks these words with sudden, startling volume, the skin of his mangled throat bulging from the strain.
Tervantias the Archmachinator"What?" Tervantias's mask of civility shatters. Livid, he looms over Eogunn, his many limbs splayed wide and hisses, "The next experiment will be your very last, mon-keigh."
YOU"Eogunn, have you lost your mind?"
NPC"I refuse to endure this humiliation any longer, [Name]. There is lying, and then there is the desecration of oneself. I... I simply cannot."

YOU"Honoured Haemonculus, he has proven his own irrelevance and dullness by resorting to insults. I am a witness to your triumph."
YOU[Strike Eogunn] "Know your place, you wretched worm! You have insulted a genius!"
YOU[Throw yourself at the Haemonculus's feet] "Have mercy on this lackwit, Master Tervantias!"
YOU[Say nothing]
Tervantias the ArchmachinatorWithout sparing Eogunn a glance, Tervantias snaps, "Your apologies failed to satisfy me, mon-keigh. The only thing you have earned is the removal of your tongue, but I will attend to that later."

NPCEogunn fixes the xenos with a gaze so lethal that, were such things possible, naught would remain of the creature but a smouldering pile of greasy soot. He remains silent, his face a mask of steel as his eyes drill into the Haemonculus.

Tervantias the ArchmachinatorTervantias hisses in displeasure, clenching and unclenching his clawed hands. "I am uncertain what gave you the impression that you are entitled to raise your voice, but your insolence is amusing. His words, however, are not. This conversation is becoming tedious."
Tervantias the ArchmachinatorThe Haemonculus turns away from Eogunn, instantly losing all interest in him. "If you value this heap of meat and scrap metal so highly, I will order it reassembled. Never speak of it to me again."
Entry point 10 of 24
Tervantias the ArchmachinatorTervantias's lip twitches, and his voice sharply drops an octave, becoming a low, menacing hiss. "You presume to make choices for me, specimen? Meddle again, and I will graft your lips to your eyelids."

Tervantias the ArchmachinatorWith a nauseating smirk, Tervantias looks on as blood spurts from Eogunn's mouth, leaving him nearly drowning in it. "Good specimen, you know how to please, unlike this wretch. It no longer amuses me; consider it your reward."

Tervantias the ArchmachinatorA complacent smile plays across the Haemonculus's face. He is visibly pleased by your subservience. "So, that is how it is? This scrap of flesh is of such value that you would grovel in the dirt to secure his release? Truly... entertaining. I think I will grant your request, purely for the pleasure of reclaiming him later and savouring the spectacle once more."
