Triasomata"Cleophaneees!" He speaks his name in a drawn-out groan, but then confusion immediately clouds his gaze — he seems to have forgotten it again. "Turned away from golden halls... to guide His flock... No satin, no silk... My sandals are worn to shreds, but still I walk... We hear His word... We hear it! In the place where... they wear cast-offs and... coveralls. I lead them... I lead..."

TriasomataThe Triasomata stops — the poor man's shoulders slowly slump and the convulsions steadily subside. His lucidity does not last long. The amalgam's eyes soon go blank and his mouth stretches into a blissful smile. Rocking peacefully and drooling, he murmurs broken snippets from his former life and prayers to the Emperor.

Eogunn"Absurd! Unacceptable!" Eogunn scans the Triasomata, furiously pounding the keys of the micro-cogitator mounted upon his torso. "You have succeeded in pacifying him, but... the Triasomata is rejecting the attempts of the implants' machine spirits to contain the cognitive entropy. Total personality degradation is inevitable. I... I must reassemble him!"

YOU"That is enough, Eogunn. Leave this blissful fool be and let the medicae of the Sector Bionica tend to him until the end."

TriasomataThe Triasomata obediently allows himself to be led away. The man keeps his eyes fixed on the Aquila, murmuring prayers until he is lost to your sight.

EogunnThe Tech-Priest looks gloomier than a cloud. "Rogue Trader, I am experiencing a cognitive block. I have analysed every possible failure hypothesis and double-checked every step I made — and I have failed to identify a single mistake. The organic parts and the Ferrum Sanctum joined together perfectly, the brain was perfectly preserved. These... complications should never have occurred, and yet the outcome cannot be denied. My calculations are perfectly correct — that is an incontrovertible fact. So, was the flaw in the conditions or in the subjects themselves?"

YOU"People are not machines. You tried to break people down into mechanical components — your original hypothesis was flawed."

EogunnThe Manipulus's galvanic cell crackles nervously. "My hypothesis is... is flawed? But how? It's inconceivable! Or... or have I strayed and committed heresy by believing that I had comprehended the nature of the Machine God, by thinking that we are simpler creatures than Him?"

EogunnThe Manipulus claps a hand to his forehead. "Of course! The main criteria of an experiment are reproducibility and consistency. One failed trial, and I'm ready to give up? Absurd! Is replacing injured subjects with healthy ones truly the answer? A rethink of the selection criteria is most certainly in order."

EogunnNodding absent-mindedly, Eogunn continues to mutter, "One cannot comprehend an error through mere speculation. The experiment will have to be repeated, with more rigorous selection of subjects... Yes, yes, that is the only way. But first, the criteria must be thoroughly reworked."

YOU"My, quite the oddity he has become! Send him to the upper decks, and let the officers marvel and make sport of him."

NPCThe triune man sinks noisily to the floor. His augments shudder for a while, then stop forever. A strange expression is fixed on his face — a smile of liberation.

Triasomata"They dressed me... in another's flesh. But, but, but..." The old man starts babbling and drooling, breaking his own fingers one after another without even noticing. Then he throws up his hands and screams, "My spirit's struggling! I need to set it free... into His grace!"

NPCThe Triasomata lies prostrate before the entrance to the bay, the faint Aquila on the door the only witness to his incoherent babbling. His hysterical wails of the righteous triune man are interrupted from time to time by the clanging of his augmented skull against the deck. A viscous mixture of blood and oil oozes from the staples on his forehead, and his fingernails are chipped from his attempts to dig the implants out of his body.

TriasomataThe enforcer's thunderous voice commands into the empty air: "Ch... check the arsenaaal! The dynasty's banner is ooour eiderdown and shroud... Do you want me to throw you in a cell?" A spasm racks his body, and his already muddled speech turns into a frightening cacophony that barely sounds like language. Suddenly, the Triasomata pounds his head on the deck again and spews forth another medley of ragged sentences: "Please... please... come baaack alive. Where's your helmet, soooldier? God-Emperor, I will not be afraid! I will not be afraid..." The spasm repeats.

EogunnEogunn clucks his tongue in displeasure, worrying at a piston on his beard as he thinks. "The subject left the Sector Bionica prematurely. Nuncius is right, I was so absorbed in the triasomia procedure and its successful outcome that I made the mistake of unfastening the restraints before the psychological evaluation could be conducted. Rogue Trader, we must stabilise the Triasomata before the specimen is forever lost to us."

YOU"How do we stabilise him?"

Eogunn"Just as a bandage binds a wound and a patch secures damaged steel, so can words heal a fractured mind. He is bewildered and frightened. He does not understand the gift that has been given to him — talk to him."

The experiment will have a successful outcome!"

NPCThe mumbling and head thumping stop. The man shifts his clouded gaze to you, and you see recognition in his eyes.

Triasomata"The Lord Captain...? I serrrve the dynasty!" With an unpleasant clang, the man slams his augmented hand into his chest implant in a military salute. He freezes, like a stalled machine man — then an agonising shudder runs through his entire body, and blood trickles from the corner of his mouth. "Is this a p-p-punishment? Am I not permitted to... to die? I will not fear! Eiderdown and shroud..."
