YOU"I'm afraid your sword is a fake. You are risking your life by going into battle with it."
SeberianThe Rogue Trader stills, astounded by your insolence. "I allowed you to speak at the council, and this is what you have to say? Stop talking nonsense."
YOU[Attack to provoke Seberian]
SeberianSeberian has excellent reflexes, despite his apparent bulk. In the blink of an eye, his sword rushes to meet your strike, whistling through the air.
Seberian"Unthinkable... How is this possible?" Seberian raises his astonished gaze to you. "How did you know? Rest assured, I will demand an answer from you after the battle is over. For now — accept my thanks, I owe you my life."
SeberianSeberian raised his arm in an imperious gesture. "Allies, the time has come. Heed my order: carry out Seneschal Voigtvir's plan! Prepare to defend the palace! For the von Valancius dynasty! For the Emperor!"
Juvenna von Valancius"Stop this madness!" Juvenna leaps up in righteous fury, her voice suddenly powerful and commanding. "I, Juvenna von Valancius, sole heir of Rogue Trader Seberian von Valancius, accuse my father of heresy. Because of this crime, his title as the God-Emperor's anointed is now forfeit! The sacred Warrant cannot remain in the hands of one so impure! From this moment forth, I will assume the great and holy burden of serving as the head of House von Valancius! I give you my word that all who follow me will not be accused of condoning heresy." She takes a breath to address her father again. "The gates will not protect you, Father. [Name] helped me open them to the truth."
YOU"I am sorry that the xenos heresy has clouded your judgement. You have left us no choice."
SeberianSeberian's rumbling laughter sounds like the grinding of unlubricated gears. "Now you have shown your true colours, Juvenna. Have you conspired with Diodas? Was it not you who led him to the gates of our house? I should have known sooner and disinherited you, traitor. We shall see. Who will follow you?"
YOU"Members of the council! Every word spoken in support of Juvenna will increase your chances of victory!"
Seberian(sequence)
Camilla Drivestem"House Drivestem supports the claim of the von Valancius heir. Our loyalty to the Golden Throne and the von Valancius dynasty is unwavering." The old woman straightens her back proudly. For a second, it seems as if she is several decades younger.
Isimond Sauerback"I hate to admit it, but Lady Juvenna is right, Your Lordship. I respect you and your deeds, but the xenos abomination is slowly driving you mad." Sauerback carefully averts his gaze from his former patron.
Sergeant Zarkov"I don't care who rules the dynasty or whose name is written on the Warrant, as long as the Imperial Creed is followed. You, Lady Juvenna, seem fairly strong in your faith."
Exalt-117"I assess this route out of this situation as the most rational." Exalt-117's ocular lenses remain fixed, and his augmented face expresses nothing. "Subject Juvenna von Valancius has been assigned the highest status."
Laria VoigtvirLaria looks down at the floor, trying to hide the tears that have escaped. "I do not renounce my words and I will not stand in the way of Lady Juvenna. When the time comes, you will understand the true reason for my actions, Your Lord-" She falters on the word and determinedly raises her reddened eyes to Seberian. "You will understand, Father."
Laria Voigtvir"How dare you..." Spots of bright scarlet appear high on Laria's cheeks. She breathes heavily, clenching her fists. "How dare you all!" Laria glances around with a hunted look, but the hand resting on the hilt of her bolt pistol remains where it is. "Your Lordship, I... have failed you."
YOU"I will. I will follow her, the first among many."
Seberian(sequence)continues where this line first appears above
YOU"She has the will of the God-Emperor on her side. What other support does she need?"
Juvenna von ValanciusCalming down a little, Juvenna nods approvingly at you. "Thank you, [Name]. Your contribution to what has been accomplished is truly invaluable, and it will not go unnoticed... I am sorry, Father, that you could not resist this temptation, but, the God-Emperor knows, I tried to lead you back to the path of righteousness." Without waiting for a response, she heads for the door, and turns back to you just as she is about to exit. "One last request, [Name]. Keep this heretic in your sights until I return with Inquisitor af Irramon."
YOU"When this is over, you will realise that I am doing this for your own good, Seberian."
Who will follow you?"continues where this line first appears above

YOU"See for yourself, Your Lordship. I am willing to risk my life to prove I am telling the truth."
Seberian"I will make you eat your words." Seberian unsheathes his sword, giving you time to assume a defensive stance, and strikes — hard, but slow enough for you to parry it.
SeberianThe instant your swords collide, the Crimson Dance of Khaine shatters into myriad shards that vanish in flashes of venomous green light. Silence descends, broken only by the distant echo of gunfire and explosions.
Seberian"Unthinkable... How is this possible?" Seberian raises his astonished gaze to you. "How did you know? Rest assured, I will demand an answer from you after the battle is over. For now — accept my thanks, I owe you my life."continues where this line first appears above
YOU"I will follow you."
SeberianSeberian nods. "You are a loyal servant to the dynasty, and I will not forget that."
Seberian"The time for diplomacy, tactical trickery, and deals is over. To battle! For the von Valancius dynasty!" Seberian snatches his blade from its sheath and raises it high above his head.

SeberianYou overestimated both yourself and Seberian. He cannot parry your strike in time... and you fail to draw back your weapon in time. It slams into the bared patch of living flesh on his face with a squelch. Seberian falls wordlessly to the ground. The hail of gunfire his retinue bestows upon you turns you into a pile of bloody scraps of flesh in a matter of moments.

Seberian"Enough. I was wrong to allow you to participate in the council." Before you can protest, the Rogue Trader's inferno pistol disgorges a blast of flame, and the world goes dark.

SeberianSeberian turns his head toward you, and his implants respond with a metallic grinding sound. "What about you? Surely your advice won't be to lock ourselves up behind the gates and wait for the enemy to present himself to be slaughtered?"
YOU[Signal to Exalt-117] "Careful preparation for the battle is sensible, isn't it?"
Exalt-117"Careful partitioning of the situation will facilitate a satisfactory conclusion to the confrontation." The Tech-Priest emits a low binharic trill. "My cogitational capacity will be redirected to calculating optimal defensive tactics."

YOU[Signal to Camilla] "I think this plan will seem worthy of the Duchess of Dargonus."

YOU"Laria was right to point out that we should trust in our people and proceed with caution."
Seberian"I also wish to hear from those who have held their peace thus far. Speak freely, counsellors, do not fear that your words will be misinterpreted. I wish to hear from everyone."
Seberian(sequence)
Juvenna von Valancius"Father." Juvenna takes a step forward and stares intently at Seberian. "Please trust me, just this once. Our enemy is strong and formidable, but reasonable. I am skilled in diplomacy — let me go to Diodas af Irramon and treat with him on your behalf. It will only make the dynasty stronger. If my way fails... then let the melta-guns and lasguns speak in my place."
Camilla Drivestem"I have seen a great many things in my life. Proposing an alliance can often accomplish more than declaring war. A well-timed agreement will increase your influence a hundredfold — even one made with an enemy. Especially one made with an enemy."
Isimond Sauerback"I, Isimond Sauerback, am prepared to undertake the mission of protecting the negotiator during a diplomatic visit." The enforcer gives a curt salute.
Sergeant Zarkov"It can't hurt." Zarkov hunches his shoulders, scowling. "Our strength is running low. The God-Emperor has given my soldiers a test — I don't want them to fail it again."
SeberianSurprised at the lack of response from his retinue, Seberian raises his hand in a questioning gesture. "Advice usually pours out of you in a torrent, so why are you all staying silent when it truly matters? I expected you to condemn the very thought of negotiations. Still, in these circumstances, I will accept even your telling silence."

SeberianThe Rogue Trader catches your eye. "You suggested I listen to my retinue. But what do you have to say? Do you, too, think one can negotiate with a rabid grox?"
YOU[Nod to Camilla] "The duchess has always supported Lady Juvenna."

YOU"I, too, believe you should attempt to achieve a peaceful outcome."
Seberian"Out of the question. I will not beg for mercy from someone who, in defiance of the God-Emperor's covenants, appeared at the gates of my palace with fire and sword." Seberian looks into Juvenna's eyes as he speaks forcefully: "The von Valancius dynasty will not bow before Diodas af Irramon. The gates of my house will not open to the enemy."
Juvenna von ValanciusJuvenna looks around helplessly. Her fists are clenched with such force that small drops of blood fall from her delicate hands. "The gates... are shut. It's no use. It's all pointless." She goes still, bowing her head low. The moment has passed. The humiliated heir is unlikely to take more decisive action.
Seberian"Enough. I have heard enough." A frustrated trill erupts from Seberian's vox-grille. "Look at yourselves. This entire 'council' is a farce, a despicable sham that has forced me to waste precious time. My retinue is incapable of finding a consensus. Counsellors! Retreat to the palace. I will dispatch the traitor myself."

SeberianSeberian's optical augment focuses on you, almost blinding you with the bright blue light of the lumen. "As for you... You had something to do with the disappearance of my blade, didn't you? You are a stranger here, yet you persist in meddling in the council's affairs. I have only myself to blame for allowing you to loiter about my palace, but your schemes end here and now." Turning to the enforcers, the Rogue Trader commands in a formidable tone: "Seize him/her!"
Seberian"But you forget: I possess a blade that has no equal!" Seberian grips the hilt, unsheathes the sword, and swings — it cuts through the air with a whistle. A shadow of fear passes over the faces of the retinue. "I am not a coward who hides behind his people. I am Seberian von Valancius, and I will lead you into battle to cut down the traitor who has defied the will of the God-Emperor! Diodas will answer for this insult to His anointed!"

This entire 'council' is a farce, a despicable sham that has forced me to waste precious time. My retinue is incapable of finding a consensus. Counsellors! Retreat to the palace. I will dispatch the traitor myself."continues where this line first appears above

Seberian"My... daughter, Juvenna, on several occasions voiced her concern that Inquisitor af Irramon could not be defeated in open combat. She was adamant that I treat with him. Are there any among you who share this sentiment?" Although Seberian tries to keep his composure at the mention of his heir, not even the hissing of his vox-grille can conceal the tremor in his voice from you. "Speak freely, and think not of Juvenna's grievous fate."

Seberian"Father." Juvenna takes a step forward and stares intently at Seberian.
SeberianThe Rogue Trader catches your eye. "You suggested I listen to my retinue. But what do you have to say? Do you, too, think one can negotiate with a rabid grox?"continues where this line first appears above

SeberianSeberian looks like a statue of himself, head held high, shoulders thrown back, with the folds of his heavy cloak rippling in the wind. He watches his assembled entourage with a resolute gaze, waiting for everyone's attention before he finally speaks. His vox-synth-enhanced voice carries across the square: "Allies! The servants of the Holy Ordos have ridden roughshod over the covenants of the God-Emperor. Inquisitor af Irramon has threatened the life of the Rogue Trader and the dignity of his loyal servants! For this, the enemy will die by my hand."
Juvenna von ValanciusSeberian's eyes linger on you, but Juvenna anticipates his question: "Father, this is [Name]. He/She is here at my invitation."
SeberianHe nods slowly. "You must have had good reason to bring a stranger to the council. Very well. I give him/her leave to remain."
SeberianThe Rogue Trader squares his shoulders and addresses the assembly: "The enemy has drawn close to the palace gates, and it is time to fight back."
YOU"Pardon my impertinence, would Your Lordship care to hear from your vassals before the battle?"
Seberian"My life is not the only one at stake here, but all of yours as well. I will listen to anyone who has something to say." With a quiet whirr, the lens of his optical implant focuses on Laria. "The Seneschal will be the first to speak."
SeberianThe Rogue Trader's decision is not to everyone's liking — you see wry smiles and tense looks. But no one dares to argue.
Seberian(sequence)
Laria Voigtvir"I will be brief." Laria speaks matter-of-factly, as if reading from a report: "The enemy vastly outnumbers us. The best place to stage a line of defence is right here in the inner palace. Loyal people and military prowess are the only things we can rely on now, Your Lordship."
Laria Voigtvir"I thought entrenching ourselves here in the inner palace would be the best course of action, but... We should listen to the others, Your Lordship. My approach is not suitable." Laria forces the words out, not looking away from you. You observe a gamut of emotions in her eyes: self-contempt, shame, despair... hope.
Sergeant Zarkov"Listen to the words of a warrior, not a dilettante. We need to go on the defensive and exhaust the enemy. The gates are our main advantage."
Exalt-117"Careful partitioning of the situation will facilitate a satisfactory conclusion to the confrontation." The Tech-Priest emits a low binharic trill. "My cogitational capacity will be redirected to calculating optimal defensive tactics."
Laria Voigtvir"Also, our defensive perimeter is working as it should. The turrets' machine spirits are satisfied and will stop any air strike."
Laria Voigtvir"The command headquarters has withstood the enemy strikes and casualties are minimal. This gives us an advantage."

Laria VoigtvirSeberian's gaze falls on you, and Laria hurries to introduce you: "Lord Captain, [Name] is here at my invitation. He/She has proved himself/herself in the matter of the missing reinforcements."

SeberianLetting his gaze rest on you, Seberian inclines his head slightly in greeting. "Lord/Lady Gaprak. Your house has always served the dynasty faithfully. I expect you to aid me now with your valuable counsel as well."

SeberianNoticing you, the Rogue Trader falls silent. "Your face is unfamiliar to me. Who are you?"
YOU"My name is [Name] Gaprak, Your Lordship. I am the only member of my house's reinforcements to reach the palace."
Seberian"You bring sad tidings, Lord/Lady Gaprak. Your house has always served me faithfully. I give you leave to join the council — as a valued ally of the dynasty."

YOU"I should have introduced myself earlier. [Name], a loyal servant of the dynasty."
SeberianSeberian ponders for a moment, but then nods in benevolent agreement, the augments in his spine clicking audibly. "Very well, you may remain. A decisive battle is at stake, and as a warrior loyal to the dynasty, I will grant you a voice on this council."
