Entry point 1 of 2
JaeWeary labourers in grease-stained coveralls bow their heads at your approach. Their leader, a heavyset, older man wearing a bloodstained foreman's patch on his sleeve, steps forward.
Jae"How may I serve you, Lord Captain?" The foreman carefully enunciates every word, swaying slightly on his feet from exhaustion.
YOU"You're in charge of everyone, then?"
JaeThe man nods. "I am, Your Lordship/Ladyship. I'm the foreman. Pask, they call me." He looks at you sullenly with bloodshot eyes, blinking frequently. "Well, at least, I was the foreman, before all this started. Now me and my boys are more fighters than labourers, and in the last skirmish Alva-9 gave us a good thrashing. I don't know what she has against us."
YOU"How long have you served Decabalus?"
JaeThe foreman frowns, calculating something in his mind, then scratches the nape of his neck, tousling his grey hair. "For as long as I can remember. All of us here, you might say, are hereditary labourers. Been working since we could walk and talk." He casts a quick glance at the Tech-Priest. "It's a great honour to work under the Adeptus Mechanicus. I'd be a wicked man to complain."

YOU"Alva-9 leads the heretics?"
JaePask's already grim face darkens still further. He rubs his eyes wearily before answering. "Tech-Priest Alva-9 was in charge of matters related to security on the station. A couple of weeks ago, she and Decabalus had a mighty row—" The foreman hastily cuts himself off and falls silent. "I mean, yes. Some still follow her orders, and right now they're all at the drilling complex."

YOU"That will do. Let's talk about something else."
Jae"As you wish, Your Lordship/Ladyship."

YOU"What do you know about the central complex?"
Jae"I know all there is to know. How to maintain it properly, what rites to perform. My grandfather helped build its housing, and my father was present at the consecration." The foreman folds a finger for every boast, immersed in his memories. "Father even witnessed Master Decabalus bless the anchor-core that powers the complex."

YOU"Have you seen anything unusual near the drill complex?"
JaePask's mouth tightens for a moment, but he quickly recovers his previous gloomy expression. "It's not my place, Your Lordship/Ladyship, to know about such things. Standing around gawping is a good way to get tangled up in the gears of a machine — there won't even be bones left to pick up. Pardon my insolence, but I have nothing more to say about this."

YOU"You mentioned an anchor-core. What in the Throne is that?"
Jae"That, Lord Captain, is what powers all the machinery here. Its soul, you might say, the most divine thing in it. It gives off energy and glows so bright it hurts your eyes, and it's shaped something like this." The foreman's hands trace in the air the shape of a sizeable cone with a truncated top. "That's what Alva-9 got really angry about."

YOU"I suppose I have heard enough. Go."
JaeThe man bows briefly again, but this time with much more deference. "We will follow you, Lord Captain."

JaeJae chews her lip thoughtfully for a few seconds. "Whatever that thing is, shereen, I know people who would pay obscene amounts of coin for a trinket like that."
